Domain Countdown is a project from the folks at BrainEacts.

The goal of Domain Countdown is to help users find interesting and useful domains that are currently available. Our current offering is to help you find the shortest domains that are still available. As that work continues, we will continue to find ways to increase our usefulness to the consumer.

What is the point?
Anyone looking to register a domain is bound to run into the cyber-squating game. We feel that having a list of available domains constantly updated will allow you to browse rather than guess as to what domain names are available for your next project, business or personal endeavour
Is this service free?
Unlike other sites, this service is absolutely free. We make our money from affiliate fees at the registrars (GoDaddy for example).
Can I use a registrar other than GoDaddy
We currently do not support any other registrars at this moment, but you are free to register the domains listed here wherever you prefer. We do have plans to add more registrars in the future.
Are you planning any new features?
